Astrology Of Christmas

By Dulce Bell-Bulley

On December 25th we celebrate the sacred occasion of Jesus’ birth. Like other Christian Holy Days Christmas was borrowed from the pagans who celebrated the return of the Sun at Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year. The Sun and the Son became interchangeable and Christ Mass, the celebration of Christ’s birth, was created.

The astrology of Christmas provides an endless field of study for today’s astrologers, as there are many conflicting dates as to when Jesus might actually have been born. The Magi of old who predicted his birth were astrologers and they saw a bright star in the east. Astronomers and astrologers alike believe that this "bright star" may have actually been a cluster of planets, the focal point of which was brilliant Jupiter.

Historical records indicate that King Herod, a major player in the cosmic drama, died in 4 BC. Therefore Jesus could not have been born in the year zero as Herod tried to destroy him. So Jesus must have been born somewhere between 5 BC and 7 BC. We’ve been using an inaccurate calendar ever since the sixth century but we know it doesn’t begin with Christ’s birth. Astrologers have attempted to work backwards from the unknown year of Christ’s crucifixion on Passover Eve to establish a year of birth.

There are many possible choices for the birth of Christ. The best and most likely of these show a brilliant bright light in the eastern sky close to the horizon. This light is the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn who meet regularly every 20 years. Nearby but invisible, is Uranus, at that time 2000 years away from discovery. All three are in the constellation of Pisces, the Fish. Jesus’ birth ushered in the Age of Pisces and brought with it compassion, mercy, understanding and forgiveness, all traits of this gentle sign.

These potential birth times also show a beautiful Grand Water Trine – a unique configuration of planets that link Venus, Neptune, the Moon, and Jupiter and Saturn. Studies of the charts of many spiritual masters have repeatedly shown a relationship between Venus, Neptune and the Moon (Mary Devlin). Venus is the love principle in the chart, and Neptune, its "higher octave", is the essence of spirituality. The Moon on a personal level reveals our earliest instinctual response, while collectively it rules the people. Truly Jesus spiritually loved the people.

Regardless of his time of birth Jesus’ presence undoubtedly lives on today. As time shifts and we enter the Age of Aquarius, we leave the Age of Pisces behind. Uranus and Neptune, the respective rulers of Aquarius and Pisces, are now in each other’s signs indicating that this shift is already occurring. Most changes are difficult, especially one as grand as this. Karma is being repaid as the stage is reset for the next cosmic scene – the one where the lion lies down with the lamb.

The Age of Aquarius is about liberation from inequality. It is also an age where we develop and use technology. Uranus brings higher consciousness into form. Therefore, as time progresses and we more deeply enter Aquarius, Christ consciousness becomes an internal flame, a part of our consciousness. His precepts are internalized and practiced instinctively and naturally. With Christ internalized, the concepts of war, exploitation and greed simply don’t occur to us. We understand that we are all one. We are thus able to disengage from suffering, end the dualism of Pisces, and bring Heaven to Earth. What a concept!

Merry Christmas Everyone!
