Boats on the Yampa River in springtime
Greetings
all!
This report focuses on the
three months that lie
ahead
and takes
a glimpse beyond into the rest of the year. The cosmic
activity of this current period helps lay the groundwork
for the next two years and the mixed energy reveals how
much preparation you need in order to not just survive,
but thrive through the changing times. As you’re well
aware from the last report, some of the slower moving
planets change signs this year and in doing so shift the
entire cosmic scene – that is – your life, helping you
in your personal evolution.
Even though some do not want to evolve and would prefer
to lead calm, centered lives doing the same things and
living in the same place, doesn’t grant you immunity from
the air clearing that will be taking place. Folks might
find the shifts and changes coming to them. You know the
saying - Shifts
happen.
Some of these shifts can be internal – within your own
psyche – like letting go of a grievance toward someone
you’ve carried for a long time. Or they can manifest
externally as a change in the circumstance of your life
in the form of new work, relocation, and so on.
In the USA the focus remains on our
financial situation.
Two powerful planets tug at the value structure of our
country and by mid-2010 a third player will enter the
game making things even more interesting than they are
now. I’ll discuss the country’s financial situation in
this issue, as well as looking deeper into 2010 at
emerging trends globally, nationally and personally.
The most notable shift is abundant Jupiter’s move into
dreamy Pisces for the first time in 12 years. This sets
the tone for most of the year, (except for three months
in the summer where Jupiter prematurely leaps into
impatient Aries.) Jupiter governs long distance travel,
foreign affairs, higher education, publishing, law,
lawsuits and all legal matters like inheritance. Jupiter
in Pisces ushers in a period of hope.
Spirituality predominates,
and the search for the spiritual teacher or Guru is hot.
Books on spirituality or self-healing do well in
bookstores. Issues related to water systems and ocean
life become all important.
Overall we’re likely to find more tolerance for each
other, which is good considering the entrenched
positions of some of the planets. We need the soft, yet
strong blessing this energy can be, to help us
transition to new times where hope and faith may be in
short supply. Stock up on forgiveness, compassion, mercy
and other soul releasing energies while you can. Jupiter
in Pisces is a cosmic gift to all of us. Please see your
individual sun sign report for a more personal approach.
It’s very important over the next few years that we take
the example of a rather recent addition to our solar
system: Ceres,
Mother Goddess, Goddess of grain, preparation, grief
and loss. Currently, Ceres is traveling through the last
degrees of Sagittarius.
Your pursuit of truth
will ground you now.
In late March she enters business-like Capricorn to meet
transformative Pluto, a planet with whom she has a long
and difficult relationship. Ground yourself in
practicalities for the rest of 2010. Be business-like
and don’t put up with any nonsense. Let
great-grandmother, who makes a decision with her mind,
heart and spirit, guide you by example. To use Ken
Wilber’s Integral model: get both the male and female
perspective. See things from all angles: if I this, then
what, and who else, and what’s beyond it?
For a brief while this summer and from early 2011 all
the way to early 2019 crazy, brilliant, unpredictable,
genius, Uranus, will be in bold, visionary, pioneering,
thoughtless, independent, hot headed Aries. And then:
mayhem? Freedom? Here are a few
newspaper headlines from
the future:
“Bold new technologies burst forth!” “Solar power stocks
rise!” “Marijuana is legalized!” “Political group
captures itself!” “Vigilante gangster leaves for the
Moon!” “No one knows what will happen next!”
Oh yea, you’re going to have to laugh otherwise it’ll be
way too serious. The planets, wanderers that they are,
know the deep dark recesses of space. We would do well
to follow their bright course. To quote Guru Paramahansa
Yogananda, "Cosmic law cannot be stayed or changed, and
humans would do well to put themselves in harmony with
it."
As always, I want to thank the wonderful astrological
tools out there that make this column possible: The
American Ephemeris by Michelsen and Pottenger, Solar
Fire, The Mountain Astrologer magazine, and Georgia
Stathis’ Starcycles Calendar. Thanks too to Nyssa Capps
and Roberta Pryor, contributing artists.
FEBRUARY
2010
As the month opens the scene is set.
Things are moving
forward, but rather slowly.
No one quite has the impetus to be bold; the energy is
just not here yet. Motivation exists, but quietly and
somewhat under the radar. If you can tap into your own
motivational sources, you’ll do well in this rather
vacuous-like atmosphere. Active Mars is still on
vacation – you don’t have all the juice you need to push
forward on major projects. Abundant Jupiter is in gentle
Pisces increasing
love
everywhere, and stern Saturn is retrograde in Libra
putting legal and governmental matters on hold for a
while.
It’s in this environment that we find the light of the
life giving Sun in the social, intellectual sign of
Aquarius. The Sun will travel through this sign until
the 19th at which time it will enter dreamy Pisces and
reset the scene. The Sun in Aquarius sets the tone for
the social issues on the political calendar, especially
where Haiti and other needed areas are. On a personal
level it’s a great time for intellectual pursuits, to meet
with friends, discuss books, and argue politics.
Aquarian folk are naturally rebellious people.
Affectionately known as the trouble makers of the
zodiac, these friendly, social and yet analytical folk
are quick to spot injustice and inequity. They don’t
accept easy answers and will question why things are the
way they are and why they can’t be different. Aquarians
make excellent friends, are wonderful skeptics – asking
for proof before they’ll believe, and are necessary for
group endeavors, like parties or river trips.
Aquarians need other people. They don’t and can’t
operate as islands. Of course, there are exceptions to
the rule and you’ll find there are a few of these
iconoclasts who prefer an isolated life and live on the
edges of society as hermits. Henry David Thoreau though
a Cancer, had Aquarius rising and valued his life alone
in the woods. Oprah Winfrey is an Aquarian and has led a
very public life inspiring and teaching others. She has
a Sagittarian Moon and ascendant. President Barack Obama
has Aquarius rising and Sarah Palin is an Aquarian. It
truly is the Age of Aquarius and though Aquarians have
suffered lately due to wounded healer Chiron’s sojourn
through their sign, they have also been blessed with
deep awareness and understanding, also due to Chiron.
Mercury, patron saint of thieves and merchants is direct
and ready to conduct business and pass on messages.
Between the beginning of February and April 17th (when
Mercury goes retrograde, again)
you’re given the green
light to trade, buy and sell.
February 6th is a particularly good day for making
deals.
Mercury is in practical Capricorn until February 10th.
Capricorn wants
careful success and business prevails and benefits
under this productive sign. While Mercury travels
through this no-nonsense sign you might make decisions
that are practical, frugal, efficient, and restrained.
On the 11th, Mercury enters intellectual Aquarius
boosting sales of books, computers and electronics. It’s
time to take a class and challenge that brain of yours.
If you’re not studying anything try reading something
new, join a book club, and/or a discussion group.
Insights prevail and group dynamics provide valuable
support. You’re able to do more united with others, than
you can do isolated.
Lovely Venus is in airy Aquarius until February 11th. In
this egalitarian sign tolerance goes a long way and
lovers are made of friends. Your money is best spent on
education, social gatherings, books and games during
Venus’ sojourn in intellectual Aquarius. If you deal in
any of these things it’s a great time to network with
others.
On the 11th Venus enters Pisces, her sign of exultation.
This brings in the wonder of forgiveness as a healing
path. And as the Sun travels with Chiron over the next
few days, openings appear in your interior world. It’s a
great time to enter into therapy. Art therapy in
particular can be very helpful now. Or if you’re so
inclined, go to confession or speak to your spiritual
advisor. Awareness, painful as it may be, can set you
free now.
The Aquarian New Moon on the 13th, just in time for
Valentine’s Day, is really special. Locate 25° and 26°
Aquarius in your chart and see what comes up for you.
It’s at this celestial address that the magic of
this....
