Earth Day and Earth in the Birth Chart

In honor of Earth Day, April 22, let’s take a look at the Earth in your chart. Like the other planets, Earth has an important role to play in your life. We’re Earthlings after all!

Since we’re physical beings we need an environment and the Earth in the birth chart represents that environment. Your Earth sign is the opposite of your Sun sign. So if you’re born Aries, your Earth is in the opposite sign of Libra. We know what sign we are by the Sun’s placement at the time of our birth. The Sun’s energy is what we came here to be. It’s the expression of our dynamic will, and the Earth is where we express that will.

Here’s how it works for each of the 12 signs:

Aries people have the Earth in Libra. They are here to be independent, and the environment through which they express that, is through understanding people, through relationship oriented Libra.

Taurus folk have a special relationship with the Earth. I believe that the sign of Taurus rules the Earth. Taurus people, like the Earth, are deeply grounded and sometimes very stubborn. Thank goodness the Earth is that way or we’d all be in big trouble. We need a stable physical environment in which to thrive. Folks born under the sign of Taurus have their Earth in Scorpio. They’re here to value the Earth by being aware of the destructive, regenerative nature of Scorpio energy.

Chatty Gemini people are here to work with information. Their opposite sign is Sagittarius, the Teacher. Gemini folk should share what they learn by teaching it. Cancer people are very nurturing. Through Capricorn, their opposite sign, Cancers nurture others through structured Capricorn duty to family and community.

Through Gemini, their Earth sign, they are made aware of the importance of education and details, giving a firm foundation to their bold schemes.

Capricorns are natural authorities and business people. Their Earth sign is in Cancer, which encourages them to nurture and love what they do. Scientific and questioning Aquarians have their Earth sign in expressive Leo. When the Aquarian finds the answer to all his or her questions, their Leo Earth encourages them to express their findings.

Finally, Pisces folk have their Earth sign in practical Virgo. This is good service oriented energy for watery Pisces people who sometimes lose their way in their sensitivity. By actively helping others they can express their Virgo Earth energy.
