Greetings Earthlings,
Outside, the wind sweeps seeds along, migrating plants and trees in their smallest form. This evening it spontaneously snows again. What a wild spring this is! On my desk lies a flyer for Earth Day, Saturday April 22nd. Our local Citizen’s Climate Lobby group is sponsoring a ditch clean-up day, an idea I’ve been thinking about ever since I got here, seven months ago. Ditches run along the biking trails and ducks live in them, along with way too much trash. It’s exciting and empowering to actually do something useful. I’m pumped. Being pumped is an Aries feeling. I’m also excited about my new adorable, functional office in Montrose and am able to see counseling clients in person!
It’s Aries time, perfect for new projects. The innocence of Aries tells us anything can happen. We can pull on waders and get in a dirty ditch and pull out disintegrating plastic. We can make new friends and try new things. Aries wants new ground to explore. Give yourself the gift of action. Give yourself the gift of a fresh start.
And wow, what a month April is! An eclipse (cosmic doorway) and Mercury retrograde (reflect and renew) are two of the interesting cosmic phenomena headed our way. Read on to see why a fresh start is just the thing you need.
We start the month with slow moving planets in their new spots. Saturn (lessons/karma) is now in the spiritual sign of watery Pisces for the first time in 29 years; while Pluto (transformation) is now in social and egalitarian Aquarius for the first time in 248 years. This is a zeitgeist shift, friends. A new way of thinking and being. See why that fresh start is key? If big, old planets can change, so can you!
Early on April 3rd, little Mercury enters earth-based Taurus. It’s time to get out in the garden! Something we’ve been longing to do here in Western Colorado, but the weather has been capricious and cold, snowing every other day, and we haven’t been able to indulge our earthy desires. Hopefully, now we can! This is also your annual cue to slow down. Mercury will retrograde at 15° Taurus on April 22nd, Earth Day. It will turn direct May 14th at 5° Taurus. Find this area in your chart and consider lingering. Consider slowing way down to take full advantage of this reflective transit.
April 4th to the 6th are sensitive days as the Sun meets with the healer Chiron. Keep your immune system strong and rest. This is Full Moon time too and things may feel overwhelming.
April 5th, 10:35 pm MDT, the Libra Moon waxes to fullness and reveals much about relationship (Libra) and autonomy (Aries). Personally, after death and Covid, I find alone time over-rated. Companionship is valuable to me. Let’s see what this tender Libra Full Moon reveals to you. The Sun makes a conjunction with wounded healer, Chiron. Chiron brings an intuitive, helpful energy if you tune into it. As always with Chiron, feelings of rejection are possible when our blind spots are made visible to us. If yours are shown to you, simply nod in gratitude. Getting too self-involved won’t help you grow.
Just about midnight on April 10th, gracious Venus leaves her home sign of Taurus, for speedy Gemini. Friendships, short trips and long phone conversations are in order for the next month. Venus will retrograde in Leo later this summer, but for now relationships and connections are full steam ahead.
Also on April 10th, the Aries Sun meets with abundant Jupiter, also in fiery Aries. Surges of independence are possible. Personal wisdom meant just for you streams in. Take notes! Think big! Plan a trip.
April 15th, and Vesta, guardian of the hearth and the Goddess of sacred sexuality enters earthy Taurus. Tap into the Earth’s sensuality. Plant something.
April 19th at 10:12 pm MDT, is a total eclipse of the Sun at the last degrees of Aries. Mars, which rules Aries, is in gentle Cancer. Let this cosmic opening help you release ego attachments. Feel into what you’re holding onto and let it go. There’s no need to intellectualize this process. This is a feeling time. It’s about being human and getting hurt and holding grudges and over-identifying with states of being. Let me give you an example — let’s say a friend said something mean to me and I’ve disliked her ever since. I’ve judged her. The dislike and judgement created emotional blocks. Love was not able to flow toward her. I created an identity for her and one for me and they were opposed. By dropping the story, I can release it all. What freedom! Try this at the New Moon eclipse. Aries New Moons are about fresh starts, and this is an eclipse too. Eclipses are open doors. Wow!
A couple of hours after the New Moon eclipse, the Sun enters Taurus along with the Moon. The next thirty days is your annual opportunity to find your grounding rod. Taurus folks receive a blast of cosmic energy.
Over the next few days, little Mercury approaches its higher octave Uranus but retrogrades on April 22nd (Earth Day) before reaching the crazy-wisdom these two can be.
April 22nd, Earth Day is an exciting opportunity to celebrate life. Connect with neighbors and find common ground. It’ll be easy, as the Moon in Gemini connects with Venus.
The week ahead continues to reverberate with the New Moon eclipse and the fresh start you gave yourself. With Mercury retrograde, take your time. Explore the new terrain of your innermost being.
The month ends as the Moon waxes to fullness, preparing for a Scorpio Lunar Eclipse on May 5th.
It’s always a good time to remember that you matter, we’re all connected, that Earth is our home and love is our destination. Be brave and keep your mind and heart open.
Thanks for reading.
