Greetings dear Ones,
The doe came by again last night. Her prints are in the dusty soil of the garden. The water in the bird bath is down to just a murky smear. She drank deeply on her journey. I wonder where she’ll get water when I’m gone. It hasn’t rained here in months. The water table has dropped with the drought. The wetlands near my house haven’t been wet in some time and I wonder how the musk rat is getting along. I admire the redwing blackbirds for singing as they bob on cattails above the dry pools. They have faith.
I wrote that paragraph weeks ago and now I know why the redwing blackbird continued to sing: because it’s raining! And it hasn’t stopped raining for two weeks now and more is forecast for the future. That little bird has become my teacher. She continues to sing as the water rises around her and the cattails turn green again. She trusts the process of life.
Though I felt that I must water the plants and provide drinking water for the creatures, in truth, I received much satisfaction from the tenderness of these little tasks; the bigger task was not mine. There are far greater forces than my own and they tend to the big things. My task was, and is, to let go. I can hold onto nothing, not even my feelings. Like water, they shift constantly. You may be noticing the same thing as we move through the emotional world of Cancer.
The month of July merges the watery energy of our feelings with the fire of Spirit. Until July 22, the Sun travels through loving Cancer drawing our hearts toward what makes us feel most secure as an antidote to our fears. Like Cancer’s crab, we can draw hard shells around our hearts. We can shut down and become small and mean. And also, like Cancer, we can open and share our loving bounty, the kindness of a smile, the promise of home.
The month opens on the heels of the recent Cancer New Moon. Seeds of trust and love are planted. They flourish under the Cancer Sun and the heat of Mars and Jupiter, fiery in Aries.
July 4th, and Mars is in the last degrees of Aries. There’s an element of bravado, a sense of warriorship. Mercury enters Cancer. We want to protect. We want those we love around us. While Venus in Gemini brings a feeling of adventure.
In the birthday chart for the United States, Mars is in the early degrees of Taurus, fixed and steady. The Virgo Moon suggests orderliness and discernment, yet with an opposition to Neptune, exactly how that’s going to be done is a bit fuzzy, but at least we’re inspired! It’s a strong chart, ruled by both Mercury and the Moon. It’s interesting that the Moon rules the uterus and Mercury has things to say about it, as the nation struggles with the recent overturn of Roe versus Wade. Power plays continue with the country’s prevailing Pluto return.
Very early in the morning on July 5th (MT), Mars enters earthy Taurus for the first time in two years. Slow and steady wins the race! Mercury and Mars are both newly clad and in perfect harmony with one another. It looks and feels like a fresh start.
July 6th and 7th, the Moon opposes first Jupiter, then Chiron and finally Mars. Feelings may be magnified. Tune in. Listen to your inner knowing and take action when the way is clear.
July 8th and 9th, over the top rhetoric possible as Mercury squares Jupiter. It’s a good time to listen to someone wise, read something mind-blowing and to record your own insights.
July 9th and 11th, make for good travel days, though you may want a different destination than your travel partner. The Moon travels through philosophical Sadge and opposes Venus.
Watch your thoughts July 12th through the 14th as Mercury squares Chiron and sextiles Uranus. New ideas and healing concepts are possible.
The Capricorn Full Moon on Wednesday July 13th could be intense. Pluto conjuncts the fat Moon and opposes the Sun. Always suggestive of struggle, and very much involved in American politics during this country’s Pluto return, it might be a good idea to lie low. Rest your emotions. Take care of business. With a trine to Uranus, we’re reminded that change is good.
The next few days continue to resonate with energy. Make whatever adjustments you need to. Sometimes prickly feelings aren’t yours. The Moon enters Aquarius and connects with stern Saturn and forms an awkward angle with the Sun and Mercury.
July 16th, little Mercury conjuncts the Sun. Protect your nervous system.
16th and 17th are perfect days to tune into the subtle realm. Connect with Source, something you hopefully do every day.
17th through the 19th, Mercury and then the Sun oppose powerful Pluto. Shadows and secrets emerge. Big breakthroughs can occur now. Avoid power struggles.
The evening of the 17th Venus enters loving Cancer and draws your attention home.
There’s plenty of energy available to you through to the 19th as the Moon moves through Aries.
Mercury enters dramatic Leo on the 19th and shifts your focus to play and party.
July 21st, and there’s a final push to get things done. Align your compass with your heart.
The afternoon of the 22nd the Sun leaves the emotional waters of Cancer for the bright stubbornness of Leo. Things may literally heat up. The Sun’s sojourn through Leo is your annual opportunity to strengthen your personal will. Leo evokes love and courage. It’s the energy of the heart.
There’s plenty of connection over the next few days as the Gemini Moon breezes by.
July 26th the Moon meets Venus and Mercury trines with Chiron. Something healing is happening.
July 28th is a special Leo New Moon. All New Moons are special, but Leo carries the vibration of romance and this time it harmonizes with abundant Jupiter in Aries. Something big and wonderful is seeded now.
Be careful between now and the end of the month, especially August 1st and 2nd, as Mars meets up with change-agent Uranus. Examine your values. Anticipate a change in direction.
The month ends as Jupiter turns retrograde. It’s time to turn inwards. It’s always true that the greatest wisdom lies within, here now is an opportunity to discover the truth of yourself.
